Adopt a Donkey
A great way to support our work is by adopting one of our donkeys. We have many of our friends available for you to adopt and although you won't be able to take them home with you, you will receive a PDF adoption certificate for your chosen donkey, two general shelter updates per year plus a CDR printable calendar at Christmas.
If you require an update on your chosen donkey please message Julie through our contact form though this must be limited to twice per year as we have very few staff and volunteers to help with these requests.
An adopted donkey makes a great gift for loved ones or friends and if you supply the dates we will make sure your gift arrives just in time.
The adoption fee is at least 90 Euros or 76 GBP sterling a year.

In all cases of correspondence please be sure to send your full name, postal address and email, and name of the chosen donkey.
To make vital savings on administration and postage costs your certificate and updates will be emailed to you.
Please note that we cannot always acknowledge receipt of renewal monies received due to staffing levels. All our attention is given to the daily care of our donkey friends and making sure that they are comfortable and happy. But please be assured that ALL donations are most gratefully received and your generous support is highly valued.

Artemis
Artemis came to us in summer 2014.
For his age he is in quite a good condition but was very shy in the beginning.
After a while he started to relax a little and now he is happy and fully integrated in the donkey group.
Femke
Femke came to Corfu Donkey Rescue in July 2014.
He thought she was pregnant and no longer able to work, but when she was examined by our vet he said this wasn’t the case.
She stayed on with us and is a very happy and affectionate donkey.
She loves to be brushed and has a lovely soft brown coat.
Irving
Irving came to us in April 2015.
His family asked us to take care of him as he was no longer needed for work.
He was in pain and had a chronic limp but has received treatment for this and is now very comfortable and enjoying his life at Corfu Donkey Rescue with his new friends.
Lev
Lev arrived in December 2016.
He is a large donkey but is also gentle and calm.
He has a malformation in his hoof joints and this has been very uncomfortable for him in the past but he has received treatment at Corfu Donkey Rescue and is carefully monitored by the team.
He has been able to live very comfortably here and has a very happy life with his donkey group.
Marina
Marina came to us in Summer 2016 from the island of Lefkada.
She preferred to be on her own at first but quickly grew in confidence and became more sociable.
She is a very gentle and soft donkey who sadly has now gone blind due to old age but she manages everything very well.
She loves her food. She is usually the last to leave the field when grazing time is up!
Mica
Mica was pregnant when she arrived at CDR in 2012.
Although she was a young and very beautiful donkey and was capable of working, we kept her here at Corfu Donkey Rescue to avoid an unknown and probably not a very happy future as a working donkey.
She has been very happy here, enjoying her early retirement with her donkey group and is great friends with Jaffa.
Jaffa
Jaffa arrived in May 2016.
Her donkey friend had died and she had been grieving for a long time, so her owners asked us to take her in so that she could have more company.
She settled in very quickly and found a great friend in Mica.
Shilo
Shilo was brought to us in December 2016.
She sadly has skin cancer but otherwise is a healthy donkey.
She doesn’t let this stop her from enjoying her retirement and she runs with the younger donkeys here.
She is very sweet tempered and friendly now she has been here a long time.
Shoko
Shoko was brought to the shelter in March 2015 because she was too small and weak to be sold as a working donkey.
In the beginning she was afraid of everything. She needs time to get to know new people but when she has gained your trust she is very affectionate.
She loves her food - and the food of the other donkeys if she is given half a chance!
Maios
Maios surprised us all when he was born at CDR in May 2018.
He is lucky that he will never experience life as a working donkey.
He is a member of the hairy hooligan group and loves nothing better than to start a play session with his friends, causing as much mischief and mayhem as possible.
Isikia
Isikia arrived at CDR in January 2018 unwanted by her previous owner.
She surprised us all in May by giving birth, in the tent, to baby Maios. She was a great mum and looked after him extremely well.
She is now a quiet and calm member of the tent group.
She suffers slightly with bad hooves but has them checked often by the farrier.
