Please join us in welcoming Fabiola to the Corfu Donkey Rescue Board of Trustees as our new President.
I am originally from Mauritius and have been living in Corfu for 25 years with my husband, stepson and my horse Fabio.
In 2015 I was looking for a job and a good friend told me about a position working with animals at CDR so I went for an interview.
I remember as a child we always had animals but had no experience of donkeys at all.
At CDR at that time was a donkey called Tritsi, who had come from an abusive previous home. She had settled in well but was not trusting anyone she didn't know well. I instantly made friends with Tritsi and was able to get close and give her a cuddle. Needless to say I passed the Tritsi test and started working at CDR.
Over the years I've learnt a lot, especially from Judy but also volunteers, visiting vets and farriers.
After one year Judy told me she had made a bet that I wouldn't last one week but now in 2024 I'm still here.
Judy and I had a special relationship, more like a great friend than a boss and I'm honoured to be able to continue her work and build on the legacy she left.
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the news that CDR founder, Judy Quinn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening.
Since 2004, when Judy found her first abandoned donkey (Hope) in Corfu, she has worked tirelessly on the island for animal welfare. Setting up Corfu Donkey Rescue, Judy has enabled hundreds of donkeys to live out their lives in the safe, calm and beautiful shelter in Doukades.
Judy's legacy and everything she built and achieved will continue in her name.
Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.
Safe journey Judy, kalo taxidi

The main shelter (tent area) for our donkeys keeps flooding!
Not only is this a muddy nightmare but if the donkeys stand around on a wet floor they will get hoof rot!
Despite our remedial attempts to fix this problem, it is still ongoing so we need to bring in the experts.
