These are some of the donkeys we have already helped and how they came to
Corfu Donkey Rescue.

This poor donkey is called Maria, she was owned by a lady from Agios Giorgos. She did not know who to call to trim the feet. CDR received many calls from Holland, Germany and the UK about the donkey. CDR now sends their specially trained farrier (petalotis) every three months to trim the hooves.

This villager from Sokraki, asked CDR to take her donkey Marcus, when she could no longer look after him. She did not want to sell him to the dealers. He had a very bad wound on his back leg which would not heal. Eventually through CDR he was sent to Holland for surgery, where he now lives in a wonderful shelter in Zeist, fully recovered after two operations.
Ira suffered a broken leg whilst being transported to a new owner. The dealer didn't know what to do so brought her to CDR. After six weeks in a splint, the break healed well enough for her to live a normal life. The dealer gave her to CDR.

Corfu Donkey Rescue helps to reduce traffic accidents.
We collect donkeys involved in traffic accidents and those roaming on the road.

Road hazard removed 2004

This donkey was hit by a car and was left on the road for two days. The Fire Brigade called CDR. We collected it immediately and brought it to the shelter for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately the donkey had a broken shoulder and had to be euthanised.

Road hazard removed Winter 2005
This donkey was hit by a car on the Pelekas road. She was not reported. She sustained a horrific injury which was not treated at the time. Many months later the owner asked CDR to take her in and Xara now lives a pain free life at the shelter.
