Kyrenia came in with a broken hind leg. How did this happen ?

Achilleas came in with ballerina syndrome in the left fore leg and tendon injury in right foreleg. How did this happen?

 


Tonic came in with a suspected fractured hip on the right side and severe infection in left hind leg. How did this happen ?

Xara was hit by a car and her owner did nothing despite a broken leg. The leg healed itself but the owner no longer wanted her as she could not work like this.

Shadow was hit by a car and left on the road for two days. She had a broken shoulder. Finally the Fire Brigade called CDR to collect her.
Charlton was an abandoned stallion thrown out with this wound caused by the rope. CDR were called out to rescue him.
Ira broke her leg whilst being transported by the gypsies. She was handed over to CDR
This old, injured donkey was abandoned by her owners. Someone called CDR to help
Zois was abandoned with a seriously damaged and infected hoof. He was reported to CDR
This donkey arrived severely emaciated.

Yes, Corfu and the donkeys need CDR. In seven years we have taken in over 400 old, injured and sick donkeys.

These are found abandoned, donated by their owners or left with us by gypsies and dealers. Many are in such a desperate condition that we cannot save them and so they are put to sleep, some are offered weeks or months of tender loving care and medication and then put to sleep when they let us know they are 'ready to go'.

Fortunately we are able to help many regain their strength and health so they can live many happy years at the shelter or be rehomed abroad in countries that can offer them expert veterinary, farriery and dental help according to their needs.

Some sadly however, we do not hear about until it is too late to help and these die abandoned, alone and in pain. Examples of what happens to the unwanted donkeys are shown on the next page.
